Matt Richter
Matt Richter represented Parry Sound-Muskoka as the Green Party of Ontario candidate in 2007, and has been re-elected as the candidate for the 2011 Ontario Provincial Election. The drive to advocate for local organizations remains a priority with him.
Over the past year, he has spearheaded various fundraising efforts for Habitat for Humanity and the Bracebridge Manna Food Bank. Other recent advocacy efforts have included health care (e.g. the re-instatement of the Burk’s Falls Urgent Care Clinic), supporting local food and farmers, raising awareness of sustainable building practices, and creating active communities that focus on intensification development rather than sprawl.
Since 1999, Matt has taught Grade 7 at Muskoka Falls Public School in Bracebridge and, during the school year, volunteers his time coaching volleyball and basketball. In addition, he coordinates the Mountain Bike, X-Country, and Eco-Schools clubs. Throughout the summer months, Matt enjoys spending time canoe tripping with his family at North Tea Lake in South River and Spider Lake in Parry Sound. In the community, he participates in the Port Sydney-Utterson Soccer league as a 4-5 year old division coach. For the past five years, Matt has also organized the Muskoka Trail Run Series and has raised $5,000 towards local trails.
Matt resides in Port Sydney, Ontario with his wife, Kailey, and his two children, Sam and Leah (and one on the way!).
