Andrew Miller
Andrew Miller is the Provincial Green Party Candidate for Barrie. Andrew founded Back to Basics Social Developments in 2008, a not-for-profit that works on food, water, shelter and education projects catering to those living in poverty. Since then, Back to Basics has given away more than 20,000 pounds of vegetables to food banks, and taught over 100 volunteers the art of organic farming. They also started Barrie’s first Biodiesel cooperative in collaboration with Everpure Biodiesel Coop.
Back to Basics is expanding its urban farming focus with 8 new gardens planned in Barrie and Toronto in collaboration with shelters, food banks and social agencies. They are also developing an innovative 30-unit, self-sufficient, low-income housing project in Barrie that will also offer the County’s first transitional housing.
Andrew is the father of three adventuresome girls, ages 8, 7 and 4. They enjoy spending their time outdoors hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding and tobogganing.
