Mark Vercouteren has lived in downtown Kitchener for 10 years, and presently works as a Customer Service Representative. Working on his family’s fruit stand and greenhouse business taught Mark the value of healthy, local food at an early age.

As MPP for Kitchener-Centre Mark’s top priority would be creating a comprehensive Ontario Food and Farming Strategy that would provide access to healthy food from Ontario’s farms. He would also promote programs to support financially sustainable local foods systems.

Mark earned 2 bachelor degrees from the University of Waterloo for Math, and Physics. Has 6 years experience in the IT field, over 10 years experience in customer retail/food service. He has lived, and worked in different cities across Ontario but enjoys living in the Waterloo Region most of all. He has spent several years tutoring adult ESL students in math and reading in Kitchener and Chatham.

Mark is also passionate about local community-based energy projects, and creating a vibrant local economy. He is so enthusiastic about the slow-food movement that he even makes own bread!

Mark lives with his wife of over 4 years. He is a practicing Roman Catholic, an avid reader and he enjoys listening to CBC podcasts.
