Lloyd Helferty was born in Windsor and grew up in Richmond Hill, where he lived until moving to Thornhill in December 2003. Lloyd graduated from the RCC School of Electronics Technology as an Honours Electronics Technologist in 1995. He has been working since then for a Canadian company that sells automation equipment internationally, progressing from Production Technician to Engineering Support Specialist in the intervening years.

Lloyd Helferty was born in Windsor and grew up in Richmond Hill, where he lived until moving to Thornhill in December 2003. Lloyd graduated from the RCC School of Electronics Technology as an Honours Electronics Technologist in 1995. He has been working since then for a Canadian company that sells automation equipment internationally, progressing from Production Technician to Engineering Support Specialist in the intervening years.

His career has allowed him was able to travel and live in countries around the world, from Europe to South America to the Far East. His experience in other cultures, ideas, and lifestyles has given him unique international perspective. In 1999, he married a schoolteacher he met while working at his company's office in Taiwan.

Although he has continued to travel extensively for business since returning to Canada, Lloyd has been involved in many community activities, such as becoming a member of executive of the Richmond Hill Naturalists and publishing their monthly newsletter. He is an advocate for good community design, smart growth, energy conservation and re-naturalization of our towns and cities. Along with music and reading, he enjoys jogging, camping, hiking and cycling in the summer, and skiing in the winter.
