Martin Hyde

18.09.2007 - 13:10
A long-time supporter of green causes, Martin joined the Green Party on his return from teaching internationally two years ago. Prior to that he taught in the Toronto public system for several years. His BA is from Windsor and BEd from Nipissing. With the exception of five years spent teaching and traveling overseas, and four years in Vancouver pursing graduate studies, he has resided in Ontario since childhood. He is currently a part-time instructor at Algonquin College, and an occasional teacher with the local public school board. His doctoral thesis (UBC 2001) focused on democratic participation.
He is running in this election so that those in his riding who are concerned about environmental issues have a Green candidate to vote for. Currently in Ontario, because we are not able to vote directly for a party but are only able to do so by voting for a local candidate, a party must run a candidate in every riding if all voters across the province are to be heard. Martin believes that the Mixed Member Proportional system of voting would, among many other benefits, better provide people with an opportunity to make their concerns for the province known.
He is a member of the Green Party because environmental issues lie at the heart of all other major issues.
