Following graduation from South Carleton High School, she attended Trent University (Peterborough) where she earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Women’s Studies, in 2006. Amy still maintains her temporary residence in Peterborough while she completes her Bachelor of Education, with her focus on the primary and junior grade levels.

Amy’s passion for travel and her keen interest in issues surrounding women, as well as her interest in developing countries, led her to complete a 5 week volunteer program in Ghana this past summer. She spent June and a portion of July volunteering in the male ward in the hospital in Atua, Ghana. She got to know and understand the Ghana lifestyle and customs by living with a local family who “adopted” her as one of their own. When not working in the hospital, her spare time was spent exploring a variety of historical sites, rainforests and naturals wonders with her newfound friends and family. She felt very privileged to have been accepted so warmly by her Ghana family and all the interesting and caring people that she met.

The passion for travel began at an early age for Amy. She was born in Oakville, ON, but moved to Melbourne, Australia with her family at age 7. Following the family’s return to Canada in 1991, she has visited many of the states in the U.S., explored a collection of Canadian provinces, completed a History high school credit on site in England, Germany and France, played rugby in Wales and England, joined her high school graduating class for a trip to Mexico, orchestrated and partaken of a trip to Cuba with her university graduating class, and returned to England as a tourist this past summer while enroute to Ghana.

During her high school years Amy played rugby for the school’s team and took part in many school activities. Throughout her university she was active in her college taking part in numerous activities. In her final year she was the Off Resident Represent for the cabinet for her college.

While completing her B.A., Amy worked as a Child and Youth Worker in a group home near Peterborough. During the election Amy has been working at the GPO office in Toronto.

As a soon to be teacher Amy strongly agrees with the Green Party’s position on the single publicly funded education system.
