Gordon Kubanek was born in Montreal and raised in Sarnia, Ont. After studying Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University, he worked in the B.C. forest industry, where he saw firsthand the destructive effects of clear-cutting. After completing a Masters in Engineering at McGill, he had a change of heart and trained to be a teacher, and now teaches Math and Science for the Ottawa School Board. He is also trained in a computer modelling methodology called System Dynamics, and worked as a consultant for the Department of National Defense for several years.

Most recently, Gordon took three years to recover from a virus that induced heart failure. The experience made him keenly feel his mortality, and he is now committed to promoting healthy individuals, healthy families and healthy communities. As an engineer, he knows that every problem has a logical solution. As a teacher, he knows that a change in attitude or behaviour required time, patience and commitment. Gordon is confident that the people of Ontario will recognize that the current economic model of continual growth is unsustainable, and will embrace what the Greens have to offer: a different, but better, way to work, play and live within our means.

Gordon lives with his wife and three daughters on four acres of land near Kars, where they raise organic chickens for their family, use solar energy to heat their water and air, and drive a SmartCar.
