The Green Party Critic for Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Ben is a popular university and college guest lecturer, and a volunteer, instructor and advisor to Nicaraguan and local charitable non-profits.

Ben has a well-earned reputation as an innovator who adapted new technologies. He won the National Energy Efficiency Award for the Commercial-Industrial sector in 1999, and was short-listed in a national contest to design affordable, zero-energy, healthy homes in 2006. He was an invited stakeholder expert in the Water Conservation & Efficiency in Ontario government working group in 2007.
