16th Annual Environmental Sciences Symposium
16.01.2010 - 00:00
Every year, University of Guelph students take part in hosting an Environmental Sciences Symposium on a relevant environmental issue. This student-run, non-profit event is a representation of the interdisciplinary focus and concerns of undergraduate Environmental Sciences students. The 16th Annual Environmental Sciences Symposium will explore our current market system's relationship to the environment. The Symposium, "EnviroNomics: Problem or Solution?" will take place on Saturday, January 16th, 2010.
This annual event dedicated to education attracts hundreds of people with varying view points. Students, academics, industry professionals and community members come together at this day-long gathering to explore and debate topical environmental issues. The discussions at the 16th Annual Symposium will showcase both the strengths and the weaknesses of the traditional economic model in relation to the environment, as well as the potential for innovation and alternatives. The event will also promote individual action at a local level to advance global change.
Economics guides everyday human behavior, from buying groceries and completing business transactions to setting federal and provincial policy. Consequently, economics has a direct effect on the environment. For this reason, the Symposium seeks to increase its participants' awareness on the environmental consequences of economic decisions.
