President - Bill Hewitt

2009 is the beginning of a run up to the 2011 election that will be monumental for the GPO. This will need hard work and planning. The GPO and local CAs need to work together to develop an election strategy and platform that is coherent, fiscally responsible and relevant to all Ontarians to elect our first MPPs in 2011, as President I would ensure this happens.

The President of the GPO needs to look strategically at the operations and governance of the party and work to support the goals of the party by putting forward a plan. As President, I would present an annual plan for the membership to ratify at each AGM. This plan would be a comprehensive document outlining the organizational, membership, and budget goals of the GPO for the next year.

My main goal of electing MPPs will be supported by:
1. Fundraising $1M
2. Establishing an organizational frame work
3. Identifying voter coalitions

As GPO President I will bring in a mandate of structure, purpose, and action that will help every CA in the province. For a copy of my platform or to answer any questions please contact me by emailing bhewitt@gpo.ca or calling 705.441.3599.

Bio
I have been on the Green Party of Ontario provincial executive (PE) as the male regional rep for the Central Region since 2007. Before this I held the functionary position of male secretary.

On the PE I have worked to improve the strength of governance within the GPO by tabling the original motion to establish the executive restructuring committee, and served as its liaison. By reformatting and revising some GPO by laws it has established the membership, messaging, money and Ombuds committees.

I was co-chair for the 2008 APC, and on the 2008 AGM committee, organizing the moderators and election returning officers. I have also organized summer summits, and the provincial executive and functionary retreat last fall.

I have been the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Simcoe-Grey Green Party since 2007. My contributions range from writing press releases to organizing and running fundraising events, to being co-author of the Simcoe-Grey campaign plan for the 2007 provincial election. Through the execution of this plan, Peter Ellis received 11.7%, 5th among Green Party of Ontario candidates.

I am a teacher in Collingwood and live with my wife and son in the rural hamlet of Avening at the base of the Niagara Escarpment.
