Send a message to Energy Minister Chris Bentley in support of Ontario's solar entrepreneurs

The GPO supports a review of the Feed-in-Tarriff (FIT) program. But there are simple solutions to ensure that green businesses aren't unfairly punished during the review, while protecting ratepayers from price increases.

We need to make sure that the bungling of renewable energy by the McGuinty government will not continue to cost us jobs and set back the green energy movement. To do this, we need your help to deliver this message to Queen's Park.

Subject: I support Ontario's solar entrepreneurs

Dear Hon. Chris Bentley, Minister of Energy;

I urge you to take immediate action to prevent more job losses in Ontario’s solar sector.

I am deeply concerned that the freezing and back dating of green energy contracts during the government’s review of the Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program is killing jobs and bankrupting local businesses. Small businesses cannot survive without income for 5 months and counting.

Please instruct the Ontario Power Authority to expedite the current FIT review process, so that new applicants can be awarded contracts at the new, lower price in time for business to get underway for the busy spring and summer season.

Businesses rely on predictable, transparent and fair conditions in order to create jobs and succeed. In the future, the government should lower contract prices at regular intervals when input costs decline without freezing contracts. This will protect ratepayers while ensuring that business does not come to a complete stop.

Regards,
