Gurleen Gill
Gurleen Gill moved to Canada, at a young age, when her parents immigrated from India. She understands the hardships new immigrants have to endure. She has witnessed this first hand with her parents, who each worked two jobs at a time to provide a financially secure future for Gurleen and her siblings. Gurleen took advantage of the educational opportunities presented to her in Canada, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has over seven years of valuable health-care related work experience in various capacities, which gives her valuable insight into the shortfalls of our health care system.
As a registered nurse, Gurleen routinely advocates for her patients and empowers them to be active participants in their health. She believes this same philosophy should also be reflected in our local communities; citizens need to be informed and involved in their communities and it is the responsibility of members of the government to not only encourage this, but provide residents with the tools to do so. Addressing health and social inequality issues are of priority to her.
From an early age, Gurleen has been engaged in various volunteer and community events ranging from working with refugee families at a community health clinic, to planning weekly spiritual/religious events at a senior’s home, to tutoring high school students while pursuing her nursing degree. She is also compassionate about conservation and environmental issues, and utilizes environmentally-responsible practices in her daily life.
Gurleen and her husband, a physician, live in Toronto with their dog.
